Ah, the dropdown menu. My sworn enemy.
On paper, it seems clever. Hide options, keep things tidy. But in reality? Dropdowns slow people down, bury information, and on mobile they turn thumbs into Olympic athletes.
I’ve seen sites where the whole navigation is a Russian doll of dropdowns inside dropdowns. By the time you find what you need, you’ve aged five years and forgotten why you came.
Here’s a wild thought: not everything needs a dropdown. Sometimes it’s better to just… show the options. Give people clarity instead of sending them spelunking into nested menus.
Dropdowns aren’t evil. They have their place. But when they’re overused, they suffocate the design. Death by dropdown.
Let’s stop hiding everything. Let’s set information free.
